Learn about architect Gordon Bunshaft (1909–1990), the controversial designer who was a partner in the firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) for more than forty years.
Nicholas Adams, professor emeritus at Vassar College and author of the newlyreleased book Gordon Bunshaft and SOM: Building Corporate Modernism, explores Bunshaft's ambition for acclaim as an artistic genius and his built legacy. Learn about the design of New York's Lever House, the Beinecke Library at Yale University, and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. Following the talk, Adams signs copies of his book, which are available for purchase in the Museum Shop.
