GATTACA
Saturday, March 17, 9:45 pm

Andrew Niccol's provocative survey of a future where genetics determine one's place in society, is a sleek neo-noir thriller starring Ethan Hawke as the lowly, genetic "in-valid," Vincent. Swapping places with wheelchair-bound "valid" (Jude Law), Vincent is successful at first but draws the attention of a dogged investigator who threatens his hopes of traveling into space. The headquarters for aerospace corporation Gattaca--the site of numerous close calls for Vincent--is the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Marin County Civic Center (1960-62, built following his death), which also figured prominently in George Lucas' sci-fi classic THX-1138 (1971). DIR Andrew Niccol; SCR Andrew Niccol; PROD Danny DeVito, Gail Lyon, Michael Shamberg, and Stacey Sher. US, 1997, color, 106 min. RATED PG-13
