Historic Preservation at the National Building Museum

Date:
Thursday, December 10, 2020
Time:
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Great Hall floor reconstruction work

Take a history lesson and learn how preservation guided the transformation of the former Pension Building into the National Building Museum. It hasn't been easy: from roof replacement, to restoration of the massive interior columns, to the recently completed replacement of the Great Hall's floor, historic preservation experts have made sure that the Museum's iconic building will continue into the future. Emily Hotaling Eig, EHT TRACERIES, Lynn Scott Paden, CITADEL DCA, and others talk about the history of the Museum’s building, the range of preservation efforts over the years, and the latest work to secure its structural integrity. The program is moderated by John Sprinkle, adjunct associate professor, School of Architecture, planning, and preservation, University of Maryland.

UPDATE: View the program on our website.

This program is presented as part of the National Building Museum's 40th Birthday weeklong celebration.
