Design Apprenticeship Programs II Final Presentation
Petworth Library

Design Apprenticeship Program NMNH CartsThe spring Design Apprenticeship Program provides a hands-on opportunity for returning teen participants to further their design and construction skills through a partnership with a community client. The participants work in collaboration with design professionals, like architects and graphic designers, to conceptualize, plan, construct a design solution for their client.

Participants worked with the Petworth Community Market to fabricate design solutions that will strengthen its connection to the neighborhood. Studio teams addressed issues such as market visibility and layout, and engagement with the surrounding community. Studio teams sourced materials from Community Forklift and used design software at the Martin Luther King, Jr. D.C. Public library to create the final products. Join us to participate in the market’s opening day festivities before attending the final presentation.

The National Building Museum’s teen programs are generously supported by The William Randolph Hearst Foundation; The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation; the D.C.
