There are patterns all around us, on our clothing, in our
buildings, and in our neighborhoods. National Building Museum educators will
model a series of activities to help students learn about the importance of
patterns in the buildings and world around them. On a scavenger hunt of the
Museum’s building identify shapes and patterns by examining the walls, floors,
and ceiling of the Museum. After investigating the Museum building, create
patterns out of a variety of craft materials. Finally create a group project
that communicates the patterns that can be found in a neighborhood.
Participants will received resources for hands-on activities
that they can use in their classrooms. Connections to the Common Core Early
Learning Standards will be explicitly addressed. Most appropriate for educators of children ages 3-5 years old.
Offered in partnership with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Division of Early Learning. 2 Professional Learning Units.
