Paper Tube Shelter Challenge

National Cherry Blossom Festival Family Program

The Paper Tube Shelter Challenge is sold out.

Design, model, and build shelters inspired by the work of Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, who builds both permanent and temporary structures with recyclable paper tubes. We’ll bring the tubes — you bring the creativity! We'll work together in teams of all ages to build the biggest and strongest paper tube structures.

Prepaid registration required. Cost per participant: $5 Members | $10 Non-members. Both adults and children must pre-register and purchase tickets.

Paper Tube Shelter

Shigeru Ban designed paper tube shelters for Rwandan refugees in the mid-1990s. Here, an emergency shelter goes up at the Byumba Refugee Camp.
