Picture the city of the future — then build it, make it, shape it, and share it! We're celebrating Week of Making with a unique urban planning project in our Great Hall. Drop in and join fellow makers of all ages and experience levels in creating a collective model of an imaginative metropolis. Use unusual and creative materials to solve real urban planning challenges in miniature, or make something original that improves the cityscape. 

Create a city of sundries and scraps, courtesy of our friends at Community Forklift and the closets and drawers of the National Building Museum.

Use hand-tools and hardware to erect your utopia of odds and ends. The Museum will provide all the tools you need to build a city from the ground-up.

Prepare for disaster on a guided tour of the Museum's Designing for Disaster exhibition at 2:30 pm.

Tinker City is part of the Week of Making. The Week of Making provides opportunities for making and supports makers, builders, and doers across the nation.

Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center that finds new uses for overstock and gently-used building materials. By keeping usable building materials from going into the trash, Community Forklift saves the environment while saving local builders money.
