Learn why old places matter. What meaning can be found in old places and why should
we choose to save and reuse them? Thompson Mayes, author and vice president and
senior counsel at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, will discuss
how old places - the Piazza Navona, or the Farnsworth House, for example -
connect to ideas of memory, civic identity, architecture, sustainability, and
beauty, while also providing a lens to a deeper understanding of our past,
present, and future. Following the talk, Mayes signs copies of the book Why Old Places Matter, which is
available for sale in the Museum’s Shop.
