What do contemporary mental healthcare facilities have in common with the approaches of the past? Learn from Eric Kern, Principal / Sr. Project Director at EYP, Samira Pasha, Medical Planner, and Marc Shaw, Architect, LLC at Marc Shaw, as they discuss the incorporation of evidence-based design principals in the role of mental health treatment today. This panel will explore elements of Kirkbride’s 19th century asylum design, which supported patient treatment with agrarian settings, pleasant views from indoors, and an abundance of daylight and natural ventilation.

Presented as a complement to the exhibition Architecture of an Asylum: St. Elizabeths 1852-2017, which will be on view prior to the program.
