The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, D.C.’s Central Library was designed by renowned modern architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The building, which opened in 1972, is now poised to take on a new look and greater role in the District of Columbia.

Hear representatives from the three design team finalists:  Mecanoo Architects of Delft, The Netherlands along with Washington’s Martinez & Johnson; Patkau Architects of Vancouver, British Columbia paired with Ayers Saint Gross; and STUDIOS Architecture with Freelon Group Architects of Durham, North Carolina.  They will present their design ideas and thoughts about how to preserve Mies’ landmark, while transforming the library into a model civic and cultural hub for the 21st Century.

This program is co-presented with the DC Public Library and the DC Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
