The National Building Museum presents Growing Community, a family afternoon to highlight the intersection of design, the natural environment, and community building. In celebration of the National Cherry Blossom Festival®, the program takes place on April 7, 2019, 11 am–2 pm. Attendees of all ages will explore the ways green space and play create a sense of belonging and place, anchoring our communities.
Attendees can:
EXPLORE HOOPS, a new exhibition featuring large format photography of basketball courts throughout the world
LISTEN to a story inspired by parks and play with DC Public Library, then build a model green roof in the Great Hall
PLAY with early childhood science specialist, Peggy Ashbrook, who incorporates play and nature into learning
IDENTIFY their park or green space on our community map
TOUR the green roof at the national headquarters of the American Society of Landscape Architects to see how to incorporate greenspace into an urban environment
Public Tour offered at 11:30 am
Teen Tour offered at 1 pm
