How does an established creative community respond to place-changing investment? In 2011, the team at Art Lives Here began strategizing to ensure that local artists and small businesses benefit from the wave of capital and commercial investment coming to the Gateway Arts District in Prince George’s County. Project director Anne L’Ecuyer tells their story focusing on the creative leadership, inventive visibility strategies, and ongoing effort required to welcome new investment and prevent cultural and economic displacement as a creative neighborhood grows. This talk is offered as part of Smart Growth programming.
