Camilo José Vergara

Sociologist/photographer Camilo José Vergara has documented Detroit’s decline for over twenty years. Photographer Andrew Moore reveals the tragic beauty of this unsettled and unsettling territory through monumentally sized photographs. In a discussion moderated by John Beardsley, director of garden and landscape studies at Dumbarton Oaks, Vergara and Moore speak about contrasting visions of Detroit—that seen in art and on the internet and that of day-to-day life within the city.

Detroit Is No Dry Bones: Photographs by Camilo José Vergara and Detroit Disassembled: Photographs by Andrew Moore will be open for viewing prior to the lecture and a book signing follows the program.
