Hip Hop Shakespeare Workshop - Theater

Date:
Sunday, August 7, 2022
Time:
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Location:
National Building Museum - Theater

Actor-writer-musician Malik Work leads this interactive workshop to unveil the tools of theater and storytelling through the celebrated work of Shakespeare and the equally innovative and relevant work of contemporary Hip Hop.

Have fun playing with Shakespeare’s words (and perhaps some of your own) and Hip-Hop beats, while growing as performers, scholars, and an artistic community. This workshop explores the commonly overlooked intersections between the traditions found in both Shakespeare’s theater and Hip-Hop music. Using the unique qualities of one to inform the other, participants will experiment by performing and delivering text with evolving rhythms. Then, they’ll compose verse with verbal innovation, compelling imagery, and dramatic intention at its center. The workshop hopes to inspire current and future creators to cross boundaries and reimagine the future of storytelling and performance.

This program is FREE with Museum admission. Registration for this program is encouraged. Register below to receive a reminder email before the program.
