The National Building Museum presents a one-of-a-kind evening with Dr. Ruth Westheimer. While most people are aware of her decades-long career as an influential sex therapist, they may not realize that Dr. Ruth is also a passionate collector of dollhouses. Far from a child’s toy to share with her grandchildren, Dr. Ruth’s dollhouses represent a personal connection to the childhood and family home she lost when she fled Nazi Germany at age 10. NPR special correspondent Susan Stamberg talks with Dr. Ruth about her story and how her dollhouses play a therapeutic role in her own life. This program is presented in connection to the exhibition Small Stories: At Home in a Dollhouse, open before and after the talk, and on view at the Museum through January 22, 2017.
