Featured Designer: Allison Fomich
Allison Fomich, a jeweler, sculptor, and upholsterer from Baltimore, discovered her creative spirit at a very early age and was lucky enough to have parents who encouraged her artistic pursuits. She earned her BFA in sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1998 and an MFA in sculpture from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2003. Two years later, she began her Tigerlillyshop line of jewelry which has garnered numerous accolades including being named Best Jewelry Designer by the Baltimore City Paper in 2007. Tigerlillyshop was also featured on CNN in 2010 as an example of a successful homegrown business.
Fomich works with a wide range of materials including metal, plastic, latex, leather, vinyl, and fabric and explores a variety of themes. However, she draws her primary inspiration, particularly in her metalwork, from observing the progression of the seasons in her urban garden and surrounding parks. She collects interesting examples of leaves, plants, feathers, seeds, etc. and creates unique jewelry through several different techniques, capturing the intimate experience of interaction with nature in beautiful, wearable art.
