Born and raised in Switzerland, Alex Hochstrasser's design philosophy comes from a modernist/functionalist tradition. He studied Industrial Design at the University of Art and Design,
Zurich. Hochstrasser launched the Bilibo toy line in 2001 with ACTIVE PEOPLE where he is
Creative Director. Many of his toys are highly acclaimed by childhood learning specialists and toy
experts worldwide, and have received numerous design awards, including Dr. Toy 10 Best Active Products, Toy of the Year - UK Good Toy Awards, Swiss Product Design Award.
For the design of Bilibo and other open-ended toys Hochstrasser draws heavily on experiences and memories from his own childhood noting, "I think I am lucky to have retained [the] sense of wonder
and a fascination for "magic" objects I had as a child." Hochstrasser's toy designs can be
characterized by both playfulness and simplicity, and they arouse curiosity, engage the imagination, and encourage creativity in children.
